Foam becomes a nuisance when the rate of breakdown is slower than the formation. Metalworking fluid reservoir(s) may overflow creating unpleasant working conditions. The rate of foam formation depends on the turbulence created by the machine. This system turbulence should always be investigated when handling excessive foam tendencies. The rate of foam breakdown depends, apart form the product, also on the concentration and mostly also on the water hardness. Fresh mixes tend to foam more than aged mixes.
When despite checking the system, product choice and concentration, foam control remains unsatisfactory, Cimcool additives may be used.
